DMI International-Katrina Spitz Scholarship Program For Seven Months Vocational Training
Deaf Action Uganda (DAU) entered into a partnership with M&R Ediger Development Fund through Deaf Ministries International (DMI) to launch a scholarship program named “Katrina Spitz Memorial Scholarship” in honor of JoAnn’s daughter. JoAnn is the mother of Katrina Spitz to provide the scholarship awards to six deaf youth recipients to acquire technical and marketable vocational skills training of their choice at World Ventures, Buwambo, in Wakiso district, Uganda.
This scholarship aims to improve the livelihoods and employment prospects of deaf persons in Uganda. After the seven months of training, the deaf beneficiaries will be provided with start-up kits and business loans to get into employment and become self-sustainable.
Generally, the process was carried out professionally and transparently through mobilizing deaf youth to apply, and more than 25 deaf youth applied, but ten were invited for an interview. Among the ten candidates, 6 of them were successfully selected for scholarship awards. This was done basing on the needs of the Scholarship program, DAU, and the available funds. The scholarship award chosen recipients will begin the training this year once ongoing coronavirus pandemic is getting back to normal.
